Under A Banner are one of the UK’s most excited hard rock bands. Since 2013, the band have forged a reputation for high octane shows combining catchy and anthemic tunes, stellar musicianship and big harmonies. Having recently played alongside Toyah, New Model Army and Oysterband and at festivals including Planet Rockstock and Beautiful Days, the band are on the rise. Their sound is a celebration of the traditions of folk, hard rock and metal and progressive rock. The band have a brand new lineup for 2019 with Gareth Cole joining Adam and Tim in January 2019 and a Craig joining us in October 2019. The band have been touring their latest EP release, Riot, which is a hefty concoction of hard rock and metal sounds from across the decades to reflect contemporary times.

Following a successful crowdfunding campaign and released in Summer 2018, the self-released five-song selection and sees the band delving into the traditions of prog, hard rock and metal. Inspired by bands as diverse as New Model Army, Iron Maiden, The Cult and Rush, the band’s focus for anthemic choruses, big instrumentation and rich vocal harmonies has gone up several notches.

Working alongside acclaimed producer Gavin Monaghan (Robert Plant, New Model Army), the band have connected their love for raw, live energy with a desire to bring the heaviness to the fore.

“Gavin understood how we are all united by all things heavy” says drummer Tim Wilson. “We decided to push the electric elements of the band to the fore – drums, bass and guitar turned up to max with a hefty dose of keyboard and rich serving of vocal and harmony. It’s balls to the wall from the get go.”

Cementing all of this is a hefty instinctive guitar playing combining an effortless mix of heavy riffs, textures and noises, analog-inspired synth sounds, and the band’s signature lead vocal, courtesy of Adam Broadhurst.

“This is a very English release”, comments lead vocalist and main lyricist Adam Broadhurst. “Riot is not an invitation to riot per se, but a reflection of the confusing and contradictory times in which we live.”

Adam goes on to add, “We always seek to bring passion and power with what we do, although sometimes we just love to spin a good old yarn.”
